In vitro study shows that ECGg (most active component of Green Tea) reduces the a activity of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) activity at serum and tissue concentrations associated with green tea drinkers.  This effect may explain why green tea consumption is associated with both reduced cancer risk and increased birth defects.  Deactivating DHFR can kill cancer cells and inhibit folate absorption.  A lack of folate has been linked to increased risk of neural tube defects among babies.
